Just have to get something off my ample chest......

I had a bad experience with UPS recently.......my advice...don't ever trust that your package is insured...because it really isn't !

I shipped a 1/2 size violin through them......was very careful about packaging it up.....took the bridge out and loosened the strings...the violin had cardboard wrapped around it and was placed in another box completely surrounded by styrofoam peanuts...plenty on all sides.....after I wrapped it all up and taped it up securely I shook the dickens out of the box to be sure nothing shifted...all was well.....I thought !

I got word from the fella I shipped it to that it arrived with the neck completely broken off !!!!!!!!

I thought "HOLY COW" THAT should never have happened ! So, the fella went through the process of putting a claim on it.....UPS shows up to pick up the package for inspection....brings it back the next day....and he gets a call from them saying that the claim was accepted and payment would be issued......ok, fine..the violin is still broken, but at least I can get my money back....

Well, a few days later I get a call from the store that the claim was denied !!! HUH?? Wait, they told the fella who recieved the package that it was accepted...and they're telling me it is denied !??

So then began a long process of calling the store....calling UPS back and forth and back and forth...because..........UPS has it all worked out that you can't talk to anyone ! You aren't legally the "shipper"....the store is....they are the ones who have to file the dispute...I couldn't ...and the store was less than cooperative......and didn't want to have anything to do with me...all I kept hearing from anyone was "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do" !!!

Rotten crooks ! All of them ! they take my money, tell me the package is insured....break my violin.....say they'll pay and then change thier minds and tell me it's MY fault because I didn't pack it properly !!! (yeah...like I'm not going to take the time to properly package a VIOLIN for shipping...for crying out loud !!) :hang: :mad2:

Now, I was very polite and courteous with everyone I delt with during this whole process.....I never got rude or obnoxious with any of them, though one of the UPS store employees came very close to getting rude with me......but, maybe I should have !!!

So now, all I can do is find a place like this to rant about it......I'm out a violin..and a crying shame it is that that little beauty is ruined......

UPS has it all figured out......there is no way possible for you to talk directly with anyone who can do anything for you when you have an issue like this. I asked to talk with someone in the claim dept...nope.....they don't even have a link to them themselves.....all they can do is say....."I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do"

If they say your package is insured......DON"T BELIEVE THEM !!

If you want to ship anything....go with FEDEX or the USPS......

There now, I think I feel a bit better......(but I still don't have my violin !! )

that's terrible, I'm sorry. I'll think twice before shipping UPS now.

It would cost me even more to do that....and more headachs too.....

If they lose, they pay the court bills.

Realisticly you dont have any other options, you can complain about UPS, but for alot of things, you dont really have any choice. You can complain to the BBB or even your states attorney general, but that probably wont amount to anything.

and if I loose do I have to pay thiers ??

Perhaps, but its small claims court, the court fees are only like $100 or so. You dont hire lawyers or anything.

If what you say is true, you packed it properly, and you had insurance on the object, then it should be nearly guaranteed.

Please also think twice about shipping with the USPS too...my mother-in-law sent us a Christmas gift last year, it was a glass picture frame also very securely packed just as yours was, Emg. Buuuuuut...it would have had to be packed in a metal shipping crate to survive what the dips**t postman did with it. Which was, leave it in between my front door and the storm door on a VERY windy day, with the storm door unlatched so it could swing back and forth pounding on the box for 3 hours. I came home at 5pm to a broken gift and a broken storm door. I went to the office of my apartment complex to ask them if the package had been left with them, per the complex's policy, they said no it hadn't, and there was someone in there until 6pm that night. Soooo, then I go to the post office and ask if they are going to do anything about my broken gift AND my broken storm door, they said since the package wasn't insured, they weren't responsible for it's contents. OK, says I, what about the damage to my apartment that YOU caused? That I will be held responsible for? Can you guess what they said?

I had some trouble with UPS too, about the delivery of the computer I am using right now. They tried delivering it at 4pm as is apparently done with 3-day ground packages. Trouble was, I worked 2nd shift and was never home at 4pm, so I called the local office after the first delivery attempt and asked could he please bring it before noon. Next day, noon came and no computer so I left for work. I came home to another delivery attempt notice, no acknowledgement of the call I made AND a note saying if I wasn't home for the next try they would send it to Battle Creek (1 hour away) and then I was to come pick it up there! I just paid 100 frickin dollars to ship it and there's no way in H-E-double hockey sticks I'm going to Battle-frickin-Creek to pick it up! I got a very nice supervisor type lady to make sure it would be there before noon the next day.

Needless to say, I don't ship stuff much anymore.
