UPS rant

Wish I had an answer for you. Next time you might want to have the UPS store pack it for you so that you can go after them if it arrives broken.

T
I need to add, or re-emphasize how important it is to have the 'proof' of insurance. I have heard in the past that places do insure, but only put the minimal amount for the shipment.

Even if a 'store' packs the package and they put minimal, or the wrong amount of insurance on the package, they are going to try and pay only the minimum - or wrong amount.

UPS s***! ...
Chances are you don't have much choice in the future when ordering 'stuff'. My guess is you ordered a couple things and have not had much experience in the 'shipping world'.
The BROWN Company would not be in business if they were consistently damaging shipments. :D

And, other companies are much worse, from experience, I know this...
;)

Try DHL, now there's a "good one"...

What would solve complaints is to insure a shipment. UPS has always been on time, and every package was not damaged. My opinion also, almost within the Thread is UPS has the best Tracking System available.

I don't work for UPS, but we do ship for them. And I am truely sorry for your loss.

Now the bad news. Under UPS packinging guidlines, those peanuts that were used do NOT count as cushining material. They are only filler. You need a minimum of 2 inches of cushining (bubble wrap, ridged styrofoam,ect...) around all sides of the item that you are shipping in order receive a claim through UPS. So UPS is not responsible for the damage to your package. Filing a small courts claim against them is probably a waste of time.

However, the store that actually shipped your package and varified that it was okay to ship is probably who you should be focusing your efforts on. If they said it was okay and it really wasn't, then it's their fault. I don't know the whole story, but maybe the UPS Store that shipped it should get a few more phone calls from you. Did they check the package before it was shipped? I mean did they open it up and look at it? I don't know for sure, but I think they should have done that.

I did not know that, had I known that I would not have recommended small claims. :hang:

Maybe that explains why they were so ....unhelpful...

Ah, water under the bridge......I'm on to other things now and there's one thing I resist doing at all costs...and that's looking back over my shoulder at what's behind....I did what I could and remained polite and courteous throughout the process.......and, in my opinion that puts me ahead of the game, whether I am reimbursed for the item or not..which in this case...it's not.

The fella is shipping the violin back to me...maybe I can do something to fix the neck....or at least I'll be able to use the parts off it if I need them..or sell them......BTW...he's NOT shipping via UPS !!

So it's not a total loss, but it is a shameful thing to happen to such a nice little instrument..and I just needed to let off a bit of steam.... :(

Thanks all for your understanding and patience with my ranting...lol......

I'm glad you let off a bit of "steam"! What happened was WRONG! I hope others will learn from this -- and I think they will. INSURANCE, get it, and get the receipt! OVER-Insure is good too, since insurance is not that expensive...
