Hi every body,
I happened to have two filter packages, a Penguin 100 biowheel power filter and a Whisper 20 power filter, both of which can accomodate a 20g tank. Is it a good idea to set up both of them in a tropical fish 20g tank? And if yes, will the bio-capacity of the tank increase? I guess it is usefull to have a redundant filter in case one of them stop working but I don't know if there are any detrimental effects. I greatly appreciate any help in advance.

Overfiltration is always good. Two filters are a good backup policy.

Getting more filtration will increase the bioload capacity of your tank, but this will not allow you to overcrowd it. Maybe you can keep the water clean, but more filters won't mean more swimming space nor more free swimming water for your fish.

Detrimentals? Maybe you could end up with too much current for small fish, but othen thant that, nothing.

Filters

Remember the old adage
"Cleanliness is next to Godliness" wellllllllllllllllllllllllllll
for the aquariast it is "Filtartion is next to Godliness'.
Run both, the redundancy covers one of the filters packing up!

In Your case, I don't really think that is over filtration...

I run a Aquaclear 50 and a Whisper 10i in a 10 gallon tank and it works very well.

If you have too much current just attach a sponge to the outlet to work like a diffuser.

I run 2 power heads on my 55g. I recently turned one off since I purchased some dime sized angels and they were having trouble swimming, but when they get bigger I will be turning it back on.
