I'm dealing with an algae problem in my 75g tank. Nothin serious, but just a slight tint that will not go away, no matter how many water changes I do. So anyways. I was thinking about buying a Coralife Turbo Twist 3x, a 9 watt version.

So will this take care of my algae problem? Also, this tank is full of driftwood. By any chance, will this UV take tannins out of the water?

Thanks, Andrew

It will take care of the algae, more than adequately, and it will not remove tannins. Activated carbon will remove tannins.

I have the 16 watt turbo twist on my 125 FW. It will help with any floating algae that passes through it, but keep in mind it will kill alot of whatever passes through it, like beneficial bacteria. it will help clean up that greenish water. no effect on tannins, only kills living organisms. Depending on your filter, you might have to restrict the output to make the UV effective. FYI Petsmart sells a HOB uv sterilizer..

lol i use the 18w model on my 1200gal pond.

lol. Thanks. How would I restrict the flow of the UV?

no, restrict the flow to the uv.. with a valve inlune before the uv.. you might have to increase the water's exposure time to the UV y slowing it down.. you might not have to...you'll have o see how effective it is and go from there.

How long would you recomend I leave it on? Like daily but only for an hour? Or when it is cloudy? Or only during algae break outs? Or when diseases are present? What kind of schedule do you recomend?
