OK - I am going to make a Vegetable Cookie recipe for my Plecs. The ingredients and directions that I am going to employ for this little project are as follows:

- Mint Leaf
- Rosemary
- Cilantro
- Iceburg Lettuce Leaf
- Garlic Extract
- Lima Beans
- Sweet Peas
- Green Beans

I am going to process all of this stuff in my food processor down to a paste like substance. From there - just like with cookie dough I am going to back them and see how them come out. I know that this may sound weird, but I just want to make sure they get the best nutrients possible.

If anyone else has a recipe like this that they use for their Plecs - please let me know!

Thanks!

plecos will eat cilantro??
i have a massive cilantro plant and never thought of this.

let me know if this works, i already have nearly all those ingredients and i too enjoy being a crazy fish person.

Seems like a lot of work to me, but it thats what you enjoy doing....I would get rid of the iceberg lettuce, replace with romain lettuce. I would also add some fresh spinach leaves.

Success!

I varied the recipe a bit, but here is what I wound up using (I sent this in a message earlier to my Hippie Chick buddy so I will just repaste it here)...

Woohoo! They LOVE it! I like the idea of giving them a fresh veggie cookie like this instead of just Hikari Algae Wafers. I did however modify the recipe a bit (because a few of the herbs had gone bad by the time I began processing them).

The recipe was...
- Mixed bag of lettuce (yeah - I'm a bachelor)
There was both Romain and Iceburg in there along with Red Cabbage
- Cilantro
- Mint Leaf
- Handful of Lima Beans
- Handful of Sweet Peas
- Handful of Green Beans
- 10 small drops of Garlic Extract (Kent GE)

I processed this all down until it was more like a patte than anything (not quite a paste - still had some very small chunks that wouldn't grind down any finer). I baked these in small cookie like lumps for about 2 minutes at 400 degrees and then flipped them like pancakes for another 2 minutes. Once they were semi hard I turn the heat off and just let them sit on the cookie sheet for a few hours (so they would get harder, and were lose enough that they wouldn't stick to the cookie sheet).

Voila! Veggie Cookies and they sunk to the bottom of my tank, and didn't come apart. Pretty cool stuff!

I think this recipe can be varied greatly. I just used stuff that was already in my freezer, and the Cilantro and Mint Leaves came with me from lunch and dinner over the weekend from a Mexican and Vietnamese places that I ate at.

I'll post this up there with the idea in mind that about any good leafy green with a green type of bean for binding is a good recipe!
