Ok, with the hub-bub of people being weirded out about feeding veggies, I decided to make a bit of a veggie guide for those who dont blanch but microwave,

I started with a small potato, Washed it cut it in 1/2 and then peeled,
Put it in the microwave for 30 secconds at a time, Felt it untill it was soft and plunged it into a Cup of Ice water, Very simple, but the effect was awsome

Here's about 2 secconds after I dropped the Spud in there
All my fish eat the potato including my ghost knife (verry funny to watch this one eat somthing it cant fit into it's mouth)

Here is some more in insequencial order, some are bad

Oh but the string is white. Don't you think they'd have liked purple better?

clashes with my tank..

Hm I never did get back to this thread. I wanted to thank you for posting these photos too. I hadn't thought of a fork tied to a string for an easy way to weight the veggies down. I'll have to try that for my plecostomus. (Who has til this point refused all veggies I have tried....and FINALLY has just now decided that Hikari Algae Wafers are, indeed, edible. He has been willing to eat ONLY the Tetra Variety Wafers which would have become an expensive proposition as he got larger.)

Anyway, thanks.

Most Welcome, there is many ways that people weigh stuff down, most common, A bolt

Perhaps this would be a good thread to make a Sticky!

Yeah I mean comm'on they would have liked purple so much better. But on a serious note I'll have to try that.

all my plecs and fish love their veggies, even mu cichlids love them suprisingly, I put the other half of potato in there for the pleco in there and they all went crazy for it, I've never seen anything that happy to eat somthing so mundane as a potato, they were playing with it this morning the cichlids that is, one would grab it and scoot off to one side of the tank and 2 of the smaller ones would go after and take it back....Really funny to see, I have a movie of it and I will try to post it later..

Ooooh, purdy leporinus . . . leporinii? Sigh.

But that's awesome. I'm a dunderhead who would NEVER think of using a fork as a weight to hold veggies down, then use a string to pull them out.

Nice and innovative!

Speaking of, I need to fish some romaine-rubberbanded-to-a-rock out of my tank. >.> My fish laughed at me. Sigh. I need some good zuccini.

I've never fed potato to my fish and never really considered it. I wouldn't suggest feeding raw potato, but nuking it as you did seems to work well and would make it more digestable for the fish. Thanks for taking the time to share your technique with us. I like the fork on the string idea!
