Algae Eaters

I have a (36x12x18) 29 gallon tank with:

Angelfish
Red-eye Tetras
Corys
Giant Danios
Rosy Barbs

I want to get a fish that will keep algae off the rocks and plants, but the last time I got an algae eater, it ate every plant in the tank without touching the algae. Are there any vegitarian fish that would do well in this tank without eating it bare?

Thanks!

Otocinculius (or oto) cats are good for keeping algae down. They are small, so you would need more than one. 2 or 3 maybe for your tank.

Excellent choice I use to have a brown algae problem in my tank so I got some otos. I have not have a problem since I introduced them into my tank. They also do better in an established tank.

Yea, ottos are really good for cleaning algae.

Don't get those other ones like chinese algae eater. They don't do much.

Zebra snails (neritina natalensis) are a great choice too. I've got one in my 10 gallon, and it's constantly eating algae.

Also, everything I've read about the zebra snail says they don't eat plants. I haven't tested that out, though, since I don't have live plants. :)

Just to clarify but a vegitarian fish would eat plants. Anyway a true SAE would be good and so would ottos. True SAE's aren't always easy to find as there are other fish that look just like them. A bristlenose pleco would also work and doens't get as big as standard plecos.
