Hi all,

I was at the fish shop today and i saw Veil Rams. They are very nice looking fish however i couldn't find any information about them.
-how big do they get?
-what's the minimum tank size?
-how many should you have?
-are they a suitable community fish?

Any info, or a link to a site that has info, would be great.

Thanks,

Tara

They are variations of german blue rams--I think they are like my long-fin rams. Typically they can be in community tanks as m/f pairs. They get up to three inches, and tend to be bottom dwellers. They require really clean water and a higher temp then some other community fish--82-84. Also, they are cichlids, so there is a good chance of agression. That is why I recomend either a single ram per tank or a m/f pair with lots of space. My rams are unusually agressive (such that 2 males can not peacfully co-exist in a heavily planted 55g), but I don't think that is a characteristic of the longer fin varieties. Some people have said if you put a bunch in it will spread the agression around, but I've found that not to work in my tanks.

Thanks for the info!

I have a 20 gallon soon-to-be community tank. It only has 3 cories and 6 guppies right now. I bet these rams and guppies will not mix. Oh well....

Thanks again,

Tara

I think a single ram would do fine in that tank, provided it's not too new. i'd say your tank should be about 4-5 months old before you get 1.
