Hello, I've owned an aquarium for about a month and a half, and I just recently introduced 1 sunburst female, 1 sunburst male, and 2 female red wag platies. I also have a betta. Recently, it has become obviouse that the male has made the sunburst female pregnant. Currently the male follows the female wherever it goes, and if the other platies get near the female, it will chase them through out the tank. Ironically, our male betta isn't aggressive at all anymore, and isn't bothered by any of the fish. Anyways, as of yesterday, the male platy took a bite out of one of the red wag female's tails. Since then, it has become very shy and tries to hide from all the other fish.
My question is, will the aggressiveness of the male die down after the female has it's first set of fry? If not, how can I make it become less aggressive, or will I just have to separate if from the other fish. I currently do not have another tank, and would hate to kill the fish, but I may be able to give it to a friend. However, I would prefer to avoid this, even though I do not exactly want my tank to become filled with baby platies.
Thanks.
