This is my first attempt at a nano reef I have had a 180 gallon reef running for 2 years no problems. Well as my first nano I have a nano cube 12dx with stock lights and the two stock fans. My problem is with the lights on the temp stays at a steady 78.4 when the lights are off at night the temp RISES to 80 or 81. The heater is set lower than what the temp gets at night and the outside temp stays a steady 72 at night. Any answers would be great thanx.

try unplugging the heater altogether if you can and see if you still get it. You potentially may have an electrical short heating up the water. just a thought.
Do your lights have a built in cooling fan? If so, the fan may be pulling out more heat through evaporation than the lights are putting in.
