Over the last couple of years I have noticed that my clear airline tubing has been turning a milky white color. I dont ever remember this happening when I was a kid and I had the obligatory 10 gallon tank with 800 goldfish in it.

The LFS said it was because the local water has gotten harder. All my current parameters are good.
Comments?

the tube on my air difuser for a juwel filter had done that, it was clear and now its white and slightly sticky. it only took few weeks for that to happen??
is it ok?

thats in my 29g (its a proper juwel air difuser(rip off, £6 odd!!)) but the cheapo one in my 10g is fine!

The clear tubing I use for homebrew beermaking turns white when I disinfect it with chlorine bleach, FWIW.

I'm almost willing to bet that it may be one of those situation where the manufacturer(s) had to remove a particular chemical in the vinyl that kept it clear because it was toxic or leaching or something. Like how they banned lead in gas and paint.

I've noticed that silicone tubing doesnt stay blue very long either.

You've got nothing to worry about. I've had all my vinyl tubing turn a milky color after a while.

Just aging, The silicone tubing is very soft and supple.....:)

Totally normal.
