I noticed earlier this week that my java fern is growing those root grabber things(what comes off the rhizome) out of a couple of the older leaves. AND there is a new leaf growing from the underside of one of the leaf's tips! :thud: Is this normal.

It gets really cool afte the plantlet start growing longish roots. It reminds me of a Louisiana swamp with ropelike moss bits dangling from the trees.

After the plantlet is big enough to where you think you might want another plant, you can remove it from the mother plant and tie it down to wood or rock. New plants (made easy!)

Just let it figure it out itself. Leave it alone.

So it will break off when it gets bigger? I took a closer look at the bottom of the leaves last night and there are 6 starting on two different leaves.

I just wait for them to start swimming around the tank. The new plantlets grow much faster than the old plants. (Not that they grow quickly) In the end I find they have very poor judgment and I almost always have to rearrange them.

My Java Ferns grow pretty quickly ;) Maybe a new leaf every 2 weeks or so, so I'd consider that pretty fast for them :D
