It seems that every time I buy a fish from walmart, it ends of last for a maximum of one week before it dies. What is the difference between buying my fish at walmart or at the LFS? Obviously the LFS knows more about fish and their care than walmart, but they probably aren't there very long before they are sold.

Does anyone else have this same problem with walmart fish?

Uh-oh... you brought up Wal-mart.

I'm gonna leave before the thread becomes a whipping post... Wal-mart is AC's mortal enemy...

The condition of the tank the fish is in makes a huge difference, as does the shipping process and how long the fish is in transit. I know my LFS is very prompt about taking fish out of shipping bags ASAP. Walmart, they might not get to it right away. The fish stew in their own waste for longer, leading to more damage to their gills.

Are you having problems with other fish, or just those from Walmart? Only thing I buy from walmart are ghost shrimp. I careful rinse them before adding them to my tank, and expect some casualties.

"Who knows" IS the question. Oriongirl is correct (I think)in assuming that Wmart fish stew in their bags for a longer period of time. Now that you are here, fishmaniac, you can tell us what goes on behind the scene at Walmart! ;)

I personally do not believe that walmart fish sit in their bags. Once they arrive at the store, they are immediately put into the tanks. They come in heated/cooled packaging and believe that they are well taken care of.

As far as behind the scenes at walmart. You can probably name it and it happens :)

Well, keep us posted if you find anything fishy going on that may lead to the mortality of fish purchased from Walmart.

As for what goes on behind the scenes, I won't be able to sleep tonight just thinking of that!
I'm just not sure if it's out of horror or wanting to be there!!:D

Ohhhh my mind wanders enough...what was I just saying...oh yeah, but a little more won't hurt!!
