would this be ok? my friend did it at it was terribly cloudy for a few days, couldnt even see the back of his ten gallon tank. i dont want mine to look like that, is there a way so it wont cloud up?

You can use play sand, to make it not cloud you put the sand in a bucken and run water in the bucket till it overflows. The small fine sand will float in the water (the cloudy stuff) and will spill over the top of the bucket. This will help with the cloudy water.

to add to jericho, while running the water in the bucket, use your hand to turn over the sand to get as much small particles out as possible.
But, I say skip the play sand, and get medium or 30 grade/grit sand, it should be right next to the play sand for roughly the same price, but the grains are more uniform so it's not as dirty as playsand, but it still needs a good rinsing, just not as much. I have sand in my tanks and I love it, good luck.

As stingray said play sand is dirty for fish tanks. They say it is washed sand but it is a variety of sizes and it is the small particles that will cloud your tank. I used beach sand, but I also have an ocean right out side. The sized sands will have much less dust in it and be easeier to work with.

my play sand was way to foggy, i just got back from buying good sand from my LFS

i used it and rocks or other substances are easier to use with sand u have to putit in a bucket then mixit with ur hand and arm for a hour 2times then when u got to put it in u have to slow dump it ohh and u runn water through it the whole time u stirr

I have pool filter sand in my tanks. It's got a natural sand color to it like play sand but without the hassle. It didn't get cloudy and is really easy to clean. Plus I think it looks really nice. :D Also I found that if you take a 2L pop bottle and cut off the bottom, put your sand in and uncap it, your sand pours nicely into the tank without it disrupting anything and settles nicely.
