I'm planing on starting a 90 gallon Amazon planted tank, I'm hoping to have angelfish, Discus, cardinal tetras, and a few plecos and cories will these all go together and any advise is welcome.:help:

I keep discus with angels and they do not even remotely get bossed around by angels. as a matter of fact the large male discus is the King of the tank.
I have a friend who also keeps wild discus(heckels) with altums.
I also know angel fish keepers who routinely keep cardinals with both discus and angels.

the only thing you need to watch is that some tetras will get nippy(Buenos aires can get nippy) the rest of the mix you are suggesting may work(do be leary of smaller cardinals and do get a large school) when looking for cories..make sure you get ones that can handle the higher heat of the discus tanks.
also be weary of plants that don't do well in that heat range.

would 78 degrees be suficent for Discus?

I would not recommend keeping discus in water much less than 82.

they can handle cooler water for short periods but I think over time they would stress and secumb to illness.

Darn, I have big plans for alot of plants. what would be the maximum temperature for a planted tank with a big variety of plants?

I have read that discus shouldnt be put in a new tank. They need a well established tank to be healthy. (About a year is the average)

actually by established many times it refers to established nitrogen cycle. discus can be placed in new tanks as long as the tank is cycled.

Marshal..look to plants that can take higher heat. swords do okay as do a few other plants.
are you looking for biotope plants or plants that tolerate higher temps?
I have anubias, java fern, amazon sword, ozelot sword,a few crypts, wisteria, water sprite and elodea(tho elodea sometimes does not fare well in higher temps) all in my discus tank..I pulled the java moss as it was a pain in the backside.

thank goodness,my tank is mostly gonna be swords although I'm hoping to have lots of cabomba and penywort.

Last time I checked, the average temp for Discus was between 79-86F.
