Was It Lack Of Oxygen?

But I've been using the same water all along. What would have made a difference this time?

Did you do a larger than normal water change? Or, perhaps as the water table goes lower during high use periods the quality of the water changes.

I'm just guessing!

Anonapersona you may have something there. The water table is getting lower, actually within the last 2 weeks I ran the well dry. Normally in that tank I do 25% water changes every 3 days, but since all my pleco seems to do is poop, I thought it might be good to do 50% water changes every 3 days. so what suggestions do tou have ??? Tomorrow is water change day. But then again I do my water changes on my other tanks with the same water with no ill effects???

I'd vote for going back to 25%

If 25% gave you no problems, just stay with that. It may be that the low oxygen in the well is no problem with 25% low Oxygen plus 75% high oxygen water, but at 50%/50% it is a problem.

If cleaning the tank of poop rremoves too much water, you might try making a smaller siphoning wand... get the smaller size (3/8"?) clear rigid tube from the fish store and glue a clear vinyl tube to it. You can use this to siphon up poop without disturbing the gravel too much if the poop is on the surface. You need a light touch and may have to sift out the gravel to replace it, but if the well is running dry you really may need to save the water for more important things!

No what would be more important than my fish? ;) Seriously though, when it goes dry it only takes about 1/2 hour to have water again so not a big problem. But maybe I'll do a 25% water change every 2 days and see how that goes.
