i saw this topic in freshwater, but not so much about saltwater. I also want to test out the poll functions on this forum

for a 29 gallon tank-

1- 50% water change monthly

2- 25% water change every two weeks

3- no water change necessary

4- all of these are wrong

Amt and frequency should depend on amt of byproducts produced by livestocks. Some may have 20 livestocks or lot less livestocks by others on same volume of water.

it should be based on your test results. So technically yes all those answers are wrong and everyone should know their WC schedule based on test results.

Yep... "It depends" should be one of the choices. A monster tank with a very light bioload could go a long time without a change. A 10g reef with 5 fish, needs a WC every couple of days.

Water changes depend on what bio-load you have in the tank, how sensitive they are to water conditions, amount of plants and the quality of your tap water.

Personally my big tank with an Oscar and a Pleco gets 50% change every week. A lighter stocked tank is probably fine with 10 or 20% per week.

One thing to remember, your tap water is generally the cleanest water your fish will ever see. Once you pour it into the tank it starts getting polluted. You can change 50% of the water every day and run a healthy tank.

Best thing you can do for your fish is a weekly WC. Depending on the size of the tank, I do 20-50% on all my tanks.

Weekly 10-20% here but I have no skimmer. Probably could go every other week with my current bioload if I had a skimmer.
