water changes how often? and how much

just wondering how much you do these things.
i usually dont do water changes. it evaporates so fast so i just add water...
but when i have a lot of fish i do about 30% every week.

Topping off the tank isn't the same as a water change. Only the water evaporates. All the other stuff in the water stays there and is just building up. You actually have to remove the water from the tank to get it out.

i know it isn't good but i used to do WC's monthly...i was a noob and thought "hey since i have a filter i won't need to do WC's" :duh: but now i know they're needed

Rainbowfish tanks 50% every 5 days, others get 50% every 7 days. Actually, it's more like 60%. I don't pay attention to how much I'm taking out. I just leave enough water that the fish aren't on dry land

We're pretty well stocked and certainly overfiltered but we still do a 30-40% water change and gravel vac weekly on both our tanks with an extra smaller partial change midweek on the 75.

One 5 gallon bucket every two weeks on my 29g tank. And I just top off my 10g right now since nothing is in it (really need to get of my butt and get it going)
