Water changes in my 120

My tank has a mark for 20-gallon though. I used small siphon to drain water into 5-gallon bucket. I did it four times then I put a mark on my tank. Consequently, I know exactly how many gallons though.

I thought you might have something like that. if you are adding water directly to the tank I would probabally still treat the whole volume of water if you are filling buckets with the python and treating that water then that would be sufficient.

Could I get some elaboration on the above, please? I thought the only way to deal with ammonia was thru water changes. The conditioner I'm using claims to get rid of chlorine/chloramine while putting some kind of stress coat on the fish. It doesn't mention that it helps with ammonia at all.

If it treats for Chloramine, then it SHOULD treat for an equal amount of Ammonia, as that is what is released if you just used chlorine-only dechlorinator on Chloramine-treated water. Most chloramine levels are low enough that if you were to use the same product to treat Ammonia, you'd have to overdose on it.

The "regular" way to get rid of Ammonia is through a properly working Biofilter, but you are correct in that if that doesn't work, the best method is to change the water instead of dumping more chemicals in the tank.

actually prime does not eliminate ammonia..it bonds ammonia , rendering it harmless.

I believe it turns it into ammonium.

seachem recommends you dose the volume of the tank as some of the prime, when added to the tank, is locked up with components in the water. so to be on the safe side they recommend you treat the volume of the tank.
if you are pretreating water to add to the tank..then treat the amount of water you are using.

If I treat 20 gallons of water separate, I will save lots of conditioner.
Everything has its advantage and disadvantage.


In the long run, I may treat water in a separate bucket though. I am cheap a** ROLF
