Water changes with Prime water conditioner

i would venture to say that in most cases, getting in a good gravel vac is more important (or maybe i should say more long-term effective) than the water change itself, simply because it is the debris and feces trapped in the substrate that leads to the majority of water pollution. the fish themselves put ammonia directly into the water, but poop and uneaten food are constantly decomposing. the water change takes care of the immediate nitrate and other buildups, but it's the gravel cleaning that removes the biggest source.

it would be interesting to see the parameters of two 'test' tanks, both with the same water change schedule, but one with only 25% gravel cleaned and one with all the gravel cleaned.

but of course the filter also has to be included somewhere, because there's buildup there too.

maybe three test tanks.

That depends on how you re-add the water. If you are using buckets (which I assume you are not in that size tank) then you treat the buckets for the volume replaced. If you are using a python, you dose for total volume of the tank.
:iagree:This Is what I do!

I have a 10 gallon tank. Should I remove the 3 neons, 3 ghost shrimp, Emerald cory, 2 ADFs, and the one surviving guppy every time I vacuum. Between the plastic plants and the plastic hollow stump, and piece of fake coral w/fake anemome thingy, there's not a lot of room, and I worry about stressing everyone.

Should I take the aquatic life and all that deco stuff out when I vacuum to better reach all the bottom area?

Still a newbie, but hopefully getting better at this.

Oh, forgot to mention the little treasure chest bubbler w/scuba diver. (my tank is kinda cheezie compared to you guys...but I want to go more natural now, on a bigger tank after seeing the beauties you pros have. Amazing!!)

you should move the decor to vac under but you should not move the occupants..much more stessful than vac with them in tank.
