ok im not a complete newb but i am not an expert either.....when you guys do water changes what water do you use?.... do you take it straight out the tap or what? do you treat it?

i fill up 2 five gallon buckets with about 80 degree water and add water conditioner.. is this bad?

interesting because thats what i do but with 1 bucket!
i live in an apartment with no hose so water changing a 40 gallon kinda sucks (especially when i moved)
i havent had any deaths from water changes but i try to match the temp of tank and the water im putting in

I've also been using buckets. I use 2 gallon ones thought because it's easier for me to lift up to the tank!;)
I don't treat my water. I have well water. I do however, run it through one of those faucet mounted filters, to take out some of the heavy metals in my water.
I'm real close to getting one of the pythons to do water changes though. If my tanks were any larger, i would most definitely would've gotten one already.

I use a Python and fill directly from the sink (water is temp matched beforehand). I dose Prime for the whole volume of the tank. I've been doing it this way for years with no issues. There's no way I could change the 120 gallon without one! LOL

Me too! Except I don't use Prime...well water. I do have Prime for emergencies though.

I do pretty much the same thing. Sometimes I'll draw the water the night before and let the water sit in the buckets overnight and then add the conditioner right before I start doing the water change.

thanks guys and girls for all your help!

PYTHON & PRIME ALL THE WAY BABY!!

Works very well for me.

The way I lok at it is that I NEED to make my tank care just as EASY & with as little labor intensity as I possibly can and that way It can be something that I won't dread doing or stop keeping fish b/c of how hard & time consuming it is.
