Water flow

Do you know what kind of filtration your going with, there should be some kind of surface movement whether you use a power head or bubbler's.If you go with canisters, 2 would be appropriate..:)

We were planning on using 2 Emporer 400's or a canister filter. Is there a good canister filter out there that you know of and would recommend??

I like Mag 350's, others rave on Eheim or Fluval.

Some fish like more flow than others and plants present their own issues.

If you can narrow down you fish choices a bit, it would help on the direction for recommendations.

If i had a 120 i would use 2 canisters and a 400, but as posted it depends on the stocking of the setup.......:)

weeser::We plan on doing a heavily planted tank and heavy stock of fish, what canisters do you recommend?

rbishop:: Is the Mag 350 made by Marineland?

Nothing directly, just the name recognition. Just be cautious on chosing canisters. A lot of them have bells and whistles that are seldom used and not needed. Kind of like the hundrerds of features on cell phones or computer programs, but the routine folk doesn't use.

Most filters scream about having more surface area than the next, but the bacteria colony is only going to be as big as you bio load is. They rant about five baskets for all types of different media, and most folks say don't try to shift your pH, or other water parameters.

Cut any claims of gph or tank size capability in half, then figure what you need.

The Mag 350 says it does 100 gph, so does that mean it really does about 50 gph? I understand about the bells and whistles thing. lol I see some little tanks on here with lots of fish (atleast 20-30) in them and I wish I knew what their filtration was because we plan on the 120g and don't want to under do it. I'm still learning, please bare with me...
