I have a 6gallon tank with 4 zebras 3 neon tetras 1 golden algae eater ans several snails.
i change 1/4 of the water every week but th water ph keeps getting acidic and I have to keep adjusting.
why does this keep happening

because your tank is way overstocked and your using up all your kH, which is dropping your pH, which will soon cause a crash and kill your biofilter. by zebras, i assume you mean zebra danios? and what is a golden algae eater?

you need a 15-20 gallon tank for those fish because danios and neons are both schooling fish that need to be in groups of 6 or more.

Was told by the petstore it would be ok

It's been a long time since i had a tank so i took his word for it.
I unfortunately dont have enough space for anything bigger than the 6 right now.
What would be ok for a tank this size?

Ohhh! Taking anyone's opinion is usually 90% of the time the wrong way to go. This includes pet stores.

It's ok. Not your fault. But taking advice from most pet store employees is usually seen as a bad idea.

From experience and all...
