looks suspended in the tank. cloudy. some of my tanks are clear and others are cloudy. what is going on? all have back filters i also fight high nitrate due to our water. need some answers. judy

How long have the tanks been setup for?
How big are the tanks?
What fish are in the tanks?
What are the water Prams?
How much and when do you feed?
How often are you doing water changes and how much water are you changing out?
How often do you do gravel cleanings?

Most likely it is a bacteria bloom but not sure until you can answer some of the above questions

foggy water

the 45 gal has 4four 4 inch . goldfish, four green cats, one plecostama. back filter, been set up for about two months. always messing with the tank. been two weeks since water change. put baking soda in about once a week due to high nitrite, totally yellow when read
ten gal has around 20 females, guppys. back filter and undergravel feed three times aday on all my tanks including the 45. water change about one fourth once a week.
my 20 gal hex has around 30 baby guppy fry. feed four times aday. different things. back filter plus undergravel. fight alkaline water in alll tanks. i do not vacum the gravel but put my magnem on for a few days. util clean. judy

Post ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings of your tap water, after some of it has set out in shallow bowl for 12 hours.

Post the same readings on each of your tanks.

The 45 gal is overstocked, with very messy fish that have a high bio load. It needs a least two large water changes weekly and some of those fish moved out.

Are you doing gravel vacs?

Wow, you feed alot!
Once a day max for the Goldfish for sure, maybe less.
I suspect much less for everyone else as well.

judy, I'd say both your tanks are seriously overstocked. Goldies need about 15 gallons each and crank out a ton of ammonia (sometimes requiring 2 filters), not to mention the cats and pleco. As well, 20 females in a ten gallon is more than double the number of fish you should have in that tank.

I would recommend reducing the number of fish, reduce feeding to lightly once or twice a day, and increase water changes to 25-50% weekly. You may need to do an extra water change now to clear out the cloudiness, which is likely a result of over-feeding.

cloudy water

okay i will thin out the tanks and go to once a day feeding. can fry be fed more then once to get a good start. lets see what happens . thanks alot to all who has put input. judy
