Hi i am setting up my freshwater tank and am going to put some water in but i am wondering because my dad has a RO filter for his marine tank and i am just wondering so i can cut down on spending money instead of getting water conditioner would i be able to process the water through the RO filter.

thanks :) :goldfish:

You probably should still mix in some tapwater with the RO. The fish need some minerals in the water and RO strips almost of them out.

what are you planning on putting in your tank? That will point you to what PH you want to be at. What are the parameters of your tap water? You are probably better off to go with something that will be happy in your tap water(with water conditioner). It will actually be less expensive to do that than to use the RO. Ro is expensive to run & there's alot of waste water. Then you have pretty pure water & you have to add things back into it . That can get pricey! Your Dad not only has the expense of the RO, but then has to mix it with marine salt/reef mix. Tap water with conditioner is cheaper as well as easier.

nope wont save you any money... just tap water and some sort of declor.. oc course i dont use anything but i have very clean water here.. most peeps may need something just depends on your water
