I have a 10G tank with two 25W bulbs in the hood, i run the lights for around 10-12 hours a day. I have taken off the plastic inserts on the hood to increase lighting to my tank, yet i still feel the tank is not getting sufficient lighting. Is there any type of lamp or some more powerful lights i could put in the hood, although the bulbs are the quite short(3 or 4 inch) narrow rubes that screw in to the hood. The highest wattage ive seen on those lights has been 25w just wondering if there are any lights that could give out higher wattage for my plants.

Well you are already at 5watts per gallon which is really as high as you should need to go. If you really wanted to though you get get a Compact florecent bulb which will give you stronger output

Is the tank planted? If so, what type of plants do you have? 50W on a 10G should be able to grow most plants. Is it not enough light? Or not "aimed" good enough?

What are the plastic inserts??? Is it an all glass hood or the plactic front and back type?

As for more lighting - check out Ahsupply . THere is a nice 36W kit which you can cram 2 on there if you want. But I think for the most part that would be too much light (again depends on plant load).

Good Luck

I have some Myriophyllum pinnatum which have turned brown except for the tops of the plant about 1 inch is still green. And a few what i think to be ludwig plants that seem to be doing fine, my water is 0,0,5 So i don't believe thats affecting anything.
