We Are SO Snowed In!!! (Virginia)

if your son loses his otos I can replace them for just shipping. Things sound better but still stressful. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I may well take you up on that offer once all the snow is done and we get some warmer weather. So far I am in the middle of a large water change on the 55G, it looks like I have lost:

55G: 7 rummys, 1 neon, and maybe 1 black neon. Everyone else in there is slowly recovering.

29G: Female BN (the only thing in the tank)

10G: Betta and 2 otos.

Does anyone know how much of a problem a single dead tetra is going to cause in a 55G? short of starting to yank out plants I can't find it anywhere. And at the moment I want to stress out the remaining fish as little as possible, I managed to find and remove 6 out of the 7, just can't find the last one.

I continue to be amazed at the recovery some of these have made, I was convinced my angel and ram were dead, and now you would think nothing happened to them.

in the NW NJ and NE PA- got NO SNOW!!! SOOOOO MAD >:(

It's weird how the snow line was. In Belvidere I got 5". 15 minutes north towards Hope....not a flake! Supposed to get a foot tonight, but....we'll see. A friend of mine who works for the power company got sent to Cape May to help where there are still lots of people without power....600 poles down and very very thick ice.

Jill, that Trooper is something else!! My goswh, how do you not let that little guy in the bedroom with you to cuddle at night!!

Never, ever skim the threads! I keep hitting the back button to find the post I missed where Jill somehow encounters a Trooper....you know....here in NJ we call the State Police "Troopers". Then I'm wondering what got into DD telling Jill she should take the little guy in the bedroom and cuddle!:thud: I tell ya, never EVER skim!

P.S. DD's right though Trooper is adorable!!!

Well, I have no idea how, but it looks like I may not have lost as many fish as first though. Both my angels are almost back to normal, my rubberlip pleco was moving around last night when I went to bed (I can't see him this morning, but its pretty dark in the tank). Even my female GBR has out of nowhere started to make a recovery, I had not seen her at all, and feared the worst, last night I saw her laying on the substrate, when I went to bed she was up off the substrate, still acting badly, but up and moving, this morning she is still up and moving. Hoping she recovers in a similar fashion to the angels.

Not sure yet but it may look like the only fish I lose in my main tank are the rummy nose tetras, and possibly a neon. A female BN from my 29G and my sons betta and 2 otos in his 10G.

Never thought I would hear myself say it, but I hope it does not snow today / tomorrow. As soon as I have cleared the house a little, I need to give them a large water change and remove any dead fish in case of power outages again with this next storm.

Sorry, hope most of your fish pull through!! One thing to note for everyone when the temp. drops in the fish tank, observe the fish that appear to be dead very, very carefully for any sign of light breathing. When the water gets down that low, they loose color and kind of go into a hibernation mode until the water temperature rises again. Even if you net them in this state, they will not move a bit. Just watch for the very shallow breathing.

gah!! alphabet, I am glad your in better shape than you thought but still sucks that you lost anything...

:rofl::rofl: oh Pink!! there you go, amazing me again!!:rofl::rofl:

do you think my fish will be ok if my power goes out? I have 5 goldfish in a 30 gal, a ton of fish in a 40 gal and a betta in my room with my rabbit. I really hope it doesn't get to cold for them...

I'm ready on groceries, but I went to the office today and left my shovel there. I have appointments in the morning may not make it back there, sure as heck aren't any in the local hw stores. :y220d: I think we got 28" here in the first round. Northern Va is only 1" away from a winter record.

I just came back from the grocery store to pick up some things that I forgot yesterday. Geez, I know that the D-M-V is approaching our winter record but gosh, is it the end of the world? I've never seen such panic and aggression at the supermarket. ;) LOL, I've been hearing about people fighting over shovels at the hardware stores because of the shortage. This is funny now but someone in our neighborhood took our shovel (we keep it infront of our doorstep), broke the tips of the shovel, and was kind enough to return it back to our doorstep. :rofl:I was upset at first but atleast they were kind enough to return it back. Having a shovel is better than having no shovel; especially with the kind of weather we've had this winter. Now we have a shovel with the front metal blade missing and the tip of the shovel looks like a shark took a bite out of it. :) Good luck everyone! Stay warm. :D

you too
