Weekend feeders

They tend to cloud the water and, in general, make a bloody mess. I wouldn't bother with a weekend feeder. Fish don't really need to eat every day and skipping the weekend is fine.

Many people who go on vacation for a week don't feed either. Seven days is the longest I would have your fish go without feeding, though.

Personally I'd rather my fish not eat for a week while I'm away than chance someone overfeeding them big time in my absence. There have been some real horror stories about that :)

I tried them once and it was a total disaster, I now use an automatic feeder, I picked it up at wal.mart and it works great, About $12.00. It runs off of 2 AA batteries, and makes 1 revolution every 12 hours (feeds) , you can set the amount you want to feed! Its a must for people that travel alot!

I would agree that for a few days fish should be fine, but I have used the pyramid feeder when no one was going to be around for a week or more and the fish did well. It can mess with your PH though so a water change would be a good idea when you return.

I used the piramid once and worked fine. When I came back home there were two fish staring at the piramid's remains like waiting fot it to release its magic.

To be honest, I didn't check the water chemistry after that, so I don't know of any secondary effect.

But the best option is an automatic feeder.

Also, if you use the piramid place it in the current of the filter. Else, it will not dissolve.

My fish weren't fed for almost 2 weeks. They were fine- well considering. I wouldn't get one of those things.

I often don't feed mine while I am away ove rthe weekend...big feeding 1-2 days before, and then regular when I return. They are fine.

A fish can live more than two weeks without food, but I think they would be too hungry. My heart won't let me do that... I'm about to cry.

the problem with starving the fish for too long is the weakened state they will get. Most diseases are aquired by fish when weak.

Let me put it this way - if the choice were only between trading in the fish or putting a so-called weekend feeder in my tanks, I'd trade in the fish.

I have seen entirely too many negative to disasterous reports on those things.
