I purchased my first fish for my 55 on monday and I got 4 electric yellow labs. They are only about an inch long and thats really what I wanted so I can watch them grow. Everything was good until today I noticed that one of them looks pale and seems to swim sideways along a flat rock every once and a while, like he is itching himself. Although he is still very active with the other ones especially when eating. He seems normal except he is'nt exactly the same bright yellow like the other ones and the occasional rubbing along the flat rock. Could this be ich? I don't see any white spots or anything else on him except the different color and he is the only one acting like this. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.:help:

Whats the water test out at, like PH, GH, Nitrite, Ammonia and Nitrate, how long has this setup been running..

A few issues possible, 1 it could be ich or a total different pathogen 2 it could be high Nitirite, Ammonia and or Nitrate, also could be very low Hardness-GH or a combo of both..

Have you tested the water? My blood parrot will occasionally scratch herself along the rocks but I have yet to see anything I needed to treat. I wish I could be more help, is he still acting that way and losing color?

This setup has been running about 6 weeks. I don't have an ammonia test kit, i'll probably need to get one tomorrow. The nitrate is less than 20ppm, the nitrite is 0, the gh is about 150ppm, the kh is about 120ppm and the ph is about 6.8. It seems like the ph has went down slightly since adding the fish. But why would this only be affecting 1 out of 4 fish? Thanks for any help.

From what Experience I do have with these type of cichlids , the occasional rubbing along objects/substrate is normal unless it's constant . The color differances could be a few differant things...

Dominant males will typically be more vivid in color , sub-dominant will be less , while females, at least with mine, are usually the lightest.
My tank runs these params, and all are happy fish thus far..
GH -180
KH - 240
PH - 8.0 ( Although I believe these type prefer around 7.5 , in general if your keeping differant species, I stay as close to 8.0 as I can )

Rite - 0
trate - 15 (ish)
