a super cold snap! it's a whole degree F outside.... about -30 celcius. this is way colder than it usually is this time of year. usually it's in the 20sF/-10sC. it's really hurting the local moose population.... I saw a male yesterday, and I could see every bone in his body. :(

here? well, the coldest it's even been in november here was -18, I think.

yeah... they already lose about 80 pounds every winter, and this cold is helping to kill off the plants they need to eat a whole lot quicker...
 
NO no thats so sad! give the moose my condolences. i hope he lives!! lol. well its was 60 F todaY! everyone here was VERY excited!! it was out of the blue! lol.

not just that moose, all the moose. it's going to be especially hard on the yearlings, since they aren't very good at finding food yet. the way it hurts them is it kills off the grass 1 month early, so adds another month to the time they must go with very slim pickings... during the winter all they eat is bark and pine needles....

people feed them all the time in the winter, though. there was one last summer who used to take apples from me, but I guess he's moved on now.
