I am posting for a friend. He has a 125 that he wants to turn into a reef tank. Wants LR, DSB, corals and a few reef friendly fish. He has an AquaClear Wet/Dry 300 that he bought a few months ago when he decided to do a salt tank. This was recommended by a LFS. I don't know a lot, but from what I've read, this is not the filtration system he needs. I keep reading about bio-balls and all the problems that can arise.

Am I off my rocker? If not, can someone please explain why the AC is not what he needs and what would be best?

Thanks:)

He could use it, just have him pull out the bio balls and whatever media is in it. Its still a great place to put heaters and skimmers and stuff like that.

He could run little baggies of carbon in the W/D occasionally also (some run it continously, but it becomes quite expensive)
