Sucked up all my beautiful tannin color from my tank that i've had for months from my driftwood, my background has been black looking since I set my tank up with the driftwood and now it's blue again and crystal clear... ewwwww..
I really liked that color noone mentioned that little diddy did they!! :dive:
 
Are you running carbon in the canister?
 
What kind of canister filter do you have? Obviously the filter thinks it is something to be eliminated in the water.(If the filter can think.lol.) No seriously though if you want the tannins back in the water you can always slow the filter down and there is black water extract you can buy to add to the water.

It came with carbon and a baggi but we didnt' use it, I have some impregnated carbon mesh/floss that we put in instead I wanted to keep the loose carbon incase we need to med. etc.
I've used the mesh stuff before though and it didnt' do anything to effect the tannins like now, it's such a shock to see it change so rapidly I hope it doesn't effect my fish in any way.
I might look into the black water extract do you think it would hold or end up clear again after 24 hours.
I'm sure it's new look will grow on me we only had a penguin 350 running before now we have the caniser and the penguin I guess I should have realised it would have some sort of affect..
 
The carbon is the reason for the discoloration being removed. If you like the blackwater look, forego the carbon.

I find the crystal clear tanks a little hard on the eyes to be honest.
Since carbon is only supposed to be good for 10 days hopefully after that I'll get a little color back, I loved it when it was a really dark rich red brown color.
 
i cant blame you smallfishi, I kinda like the brown tannis color, but its kinda hard to get on my discus tank when you're doing 2-3 waterchanges a week...but when i first put my drift wood in the tank when i was cycling it, it was awesome...loved the dark brown...also if you want more brown get some peat and put in your filter...
