not sure where this goes, just saw a cl listing, 150 gallon tank and NINE red bellied piranahs, 200.00 not willing to seperate fish. may be wrong think it said fish were 6-8 inches long. listed in general knox tn. p.s claim fish alone worth 1300. p.s.s thats not the reason for post just a little venting

Does the guy have any pit bulls for sale as well? :headshake2:

Never understood why people get red bellies. Ugly, skittish, difficult to trade in. Might be usefull to keep neighbor kids off your lawn because if they get lippy you can just stand in your door way, point to your tank and nod.

Whats so bad about that? defiantly not worth $1300, but worth a lot. Ive seen 6 inch ones for $60 a piece. And I agree, red bellys are sucky fish lol their really pretty during the day but when i get to close to the tank they freak out, bang their heads, mess up all the decor, splash water into my bed ughhh it makes me so mad lol

what a mess

9 8 inch fish in a 150? thats whats so bad.

i don't think nine 8-inch fish in a 150 is a problem. nine 8-inch fish that will potentially reach over 2 feet each in a 150? THAT'S the problem.

was the price $200 or $2000? if it was 200 i'd be out there in no time. that's a great deal. the pacus would be back on craigslist within the week.

what a mess

it was 200.00

Ok, I decided to look to see what these fish looked like, I knew they were ugly, just wanted to confirm it. Well the first hit I got on google is this: http://www.amersol.edu.pe/ms/7th/7block/jungle_research/new_cards/03/3card.html

Not the best site but the picture of the guy who was mauled by those things was worth the look. How the heck does anyone keep these fish? How do you clean out the tank?

the link you posted is of pirahna. while pacus look very similar to pirahna when young, they quickly outgrow them. pacus are mainly herbivores as well.

i had a friend with a bunch of red bellied pirahnas and they are just FISH. they have a bad reputation but i just see them as carnivorous silver dollars. i put my hands in the tank and they run to the sides. they are very skittish. i even made money betting with friends that i would put my hands in the tank and try grabbing them, lol. the main reason i dont like them is because they can only live in a species only tank. in the wild they only attack people if their nesting site is disturbed (territorial) or if the drought is occurring and they are starving. even so, they are a main food fish for the natives and are not feared at all.
