hey guys, ended up getting the BiOrb(http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3861354) after reading some great reviews. I know there are strong oppositions against fishbowls, but feel this is a special exception (it's 8 gallons as oppose to most 3 gallon fish bowls) and comes with complete 3 stage filter system on par if not better than eclipse 12 biowheel. The bowl has been cycled (the biospira worked amazingly).

So now comes the fun part of adding the fish, and i need your advise :)

- no goldfish (tank too small)
- no betta (water surface not stable due to bubbles)

what would you guys recommend:

-type of fish?
-number of fish?
-also like to have one algae eater, what kind?
-what type of plants? something easy to maintain and complement the fish
-also do i need to buy a heater? it doesnt come with one.

thanks!

neon tetra, platti mollies guppies, I would not get a pleco for that tank, they get monsterous,

Yes you would. I don't see the bubbling on the surface as a problem for the Betta..the water is being areated. A shape like that doesn't have much water surface area. That may influence how many fish you can have..someone that knows more can tell us, but I would think less fish will be able to go in than if a reqular rectangular open tank.

 those people are insane..they show 3 goldfish in that thing!! I know you know better...but others don't!!

I wouldn't worry about the heater and get a school of white clouds.

You didn't add fish at the same time as using biospira? by the time you put fish in the bacteria would have died from not having any food.

May I ask why you choose that particular setup? A while ago i got a 10gallon setup from walmart for 68dollars canadian (after taxes)

nursie, it's a good bowl(probably the only good one) but the marketing is very deceptive. Here from the actual manufacture's website ( http://www.reef-one.com/feng-shui.htm ). it's almost saying to put 3 goldfish into this bowl... :rant2:

If it's not a problem for betta, it will be perfect. Will just add 1 betta, until things stablize then add a few tetra and call it a day:)

onikun, to be honest i picked this bowl because of the style, really like how it looks and (it IS 8 gallons). Was a tough call between eclipse 12 and biorb.

Also I kept the bacterias alive by adding a few drops of amonia and measure it. Once the fish is here, i will change the water and add the fish.

those as long as your heat in your house is a constant level for a tank that small you shouldnt need a heater

hey!

for the algae eater you could try otos (which are kinda plain but will do the job) everything else gets a bit big... you'd probably only need one oto for that tank... but i think they are better off in small groups (like 3 or so). remember algae eaters should be given other food such as bottom feeder pellets as well to supliment their diet!
