What apple snails get big?

I want to get an apple snail for my 5 gallon with my betta. I've heard some apple snail get 15cm in diameter. What kinds of apple snails get bigger than the other species.

Well the Golden one only gets about 2 inches so you would be fine with 1 of those in that tank.

Not to disagree, flag, but at one of my lfs there was a golden apple snail the size of a baseball--literally--in a tank. She sold it for good bucks, too! Mine has gone from 1/2 inch to 2 3/4 inches in 4 months--intitial growth was quite rapid so I don't know if it will get that huge or not--not really wanting a giant plant-eating snail!! I think unless one is an expert on the variations, it may be hit or miss. . . . . :huh:

Go for the ones called mystery snails. They are still apple snails, but only get about the size of a golf ball.

The generic term "apple snail" refers to over 100 different species of snails.

ramshorn snails would be a good choice, too. mine's about 2" long and high, and they look nice, too.

Be carefull WalMart and other are famous for selling Pomacea canaliculata as mystery snails.

and they call senegal bichirs dragon fish. sheesh.... but lets not make more wal-mart bashing, shall we?
