I am going to get a 30 gallon tank and I would like to have a femal betta. But, I would like more fish. Does anyone have any good ideas?I like bright colorful fish.:D

yeah, I would do the smalller neon- type tetras personally- a lot of the tetras with the serpae body type can be a bit boisterous. you might think about harlequin rasboras too. They get along with anything and are pretty hardy.

Depends on the tetras: black skirts, for example, are a menace with long finned fish.

Tetras like neons, cardinals, and glolights are good, loaches are great (kuhlis especially, they are from the similar biotopes), cory catfish, some of the other very peaceful/shy community fish.

Danios, livebearers, gouramis, paradisefish, other bettas, and anything big enough to eat a betta are not good tankmates.

You could always have more than one female betta in your 30 gallon tank -- four would be a good number, and choosing females with different colouring would add variety. A school of tetras such as neons, or glo-lites, and maybe a group of cories (or a couple kuhli loaches instead) would complete the tank, not to mention youwould have plenty of activity in all areas of your aquarium.

It also depends on the betta. Just like some males are naturally more aggressive, so are some females. Some females couldn't care less about their tankmates, others would fight them to the death. It's hard to say if they'll get along without first knowing the general temperment of the betta or trying it out.

That said, I have a female betta in my 55g (gorgeous ultraviolet purple, btw:)) in with:

pearl gouramis
neons
cardinals
celebes rainbowfish
threadfin rainbowfish
cories
otos
long fin white skirt tetras - actually some of the more passive fish in the tank
long fin danios
cherry barbs

And maybe some I'm forgetting.

thats cool leopardess

I wanted to put insome gouramis with the betta but, someone told me it was not a good idea.

Thank you all for helping me. Once I actually figure out what I really want in there I will tell all of you.:D
