I am starting a 3 gallon tank for my daughter and was wondering what the hardest cory breed there is that can be put in the tank. The tank is almost finished cycling but I want to get a bottom feeder to get the excess food ( as she is still learning how much to feed them ,shes adding a pinch of flake food but sometimes the pinch is alittle large) that is it there when she feeds the other fish ( 4 danios) and someting that is going to be able to withstand the conditions until the tank fully cycles.

I would say the Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) is the hardiest. But I would not put it in your tank. It can grow to 3 inches so you do not have the room. As well, any cory would prefer to be in groups. The 3 gallon tank is already overstocked with the danios (plus it is not enough swimming room for such active fish).

Why not get a snail? Snails aren't bothered by high ammonia levels.

I'd agree with all that was said. Cories need company to be truely a decent fish to watch and a 3 gallon just isn't going to allow for that. A 10 gallon is really the absolute min for a small group of dwarf cories.

Shrimp or snails would be the only choice.
