Hi---
Setting up a 29 gal tank. I'm looking for ideas on keeping a few large fish with a school of about a dozen neons. I would like about 3 or 4 medium to large fish with the neons. Any suggestions.
Thanks

If you're starting up a new tank, I wouldn't cycle it with Neons. They're kinda sensitive, and you're bound to lose a bunch. Wait a few weeks for the tank to get cycled before you add the Neons.

Make sure whatever species you put with the Neons, they're peaceful. Neons tend to get beat up on by more aggressive species. Most of the smaller tetra species, guppies, female bettas, and corydoras would be good tank mates :)

when u say large fish... what are you thinking exactly coz a 29 really aint all that big? There are lots of fish you can keep with neons, i have a couple of bala sharks and a big ole pleco and some swordtails in with my neons, and in the other tank with my black neons i have 2 baby BN plecos.

my bala are largeish fish so far.. well one is, the other still tiny, im looking forward to upgrading to a bigger tank as they start to get a bit bigger, but they pay no mind to my tetras, they just leave them be and go in search of algae around the filter. It very much depends on what large fish are being concidered. To some people 6" is a large fish, hence why i ask on how big your thinking lol.

You could go for a pair of german blue rams. Or maybe a school of 5 cories for the bottom.

I second the GBR. Two pairs or even just one pair would look fantastic. Cories are boring, so ditch that. Hahahaha!

2 Female Pearl Gouramis.

Great idea!!! Guppies are also a good idea and you can get them in many different colors.
