I've had a 36-gallon tank up and running for over a year now with pretty good success: a pearl gourami, 8 harlequin rasboras, 3 SAE, and 6 panda cories were the original inhabitants. In the 15 months I've had this tank going, I've lost one harlequin ras and 5 pandas. I am so sad to lose the pandas, and I want more cories but I don't want them to kick the bucket so quickly.

I have two theories as to the problem--it could be the substrate (eco-complete) or, and this seems more likely to me, it could be the temp. I live on the Texas Gulf Coast. It's flippin' hot. My tank is a constant 78 degrees in the winter, but gets up to about 82 in the summertime. Is there a cory that can handle this? I don't mean one that may languish for a couple of years, but one that can live somewhat comfortably during the Texas summers?

Panda's are little more difficult/sensitive I think. Sterbai would be a good one for warmer water and alot more hardy.

yep. i keep my sterbai and trilineatus corys at 82.

Well, I don't know aobut the eco-complete (although i am curious as I am starting up a new tank with it myself and looove cories, I have beeon wondering how they would deal with us..)

But as to the temp.. I have Peppered Cories that I keep in a heated tank that has ranged from 77-82 and they are not only doing well, but thriving. Some of them I have had for over 2 years, and they loooove to breed so I don't think the high temps are an issue for these hearty guys...

My vote is pretty much always on peppered cories!! :)

Cool! I will look into these types of cories and hopefully will have more success.

Thanks! :headbang2:

I have always used eco-complete and never had a problem with my cories. Sterbai are fine in warmer tanks that is waht I have in my Discus tank.

I recently asked Frank Falcone (Coryologist on Aquabid and one of the top Cory people in the world) that very same question and he without hesitation named C. sterbai.

Yes, sterbai are number one on the list, I keep lots of them. I also have kept the albinos and trillis in 82-84F water without issue. Actually, rarely do any of my tanks dip below 80F.

paleatus and trilineatus seem to do well in warmer water. i live in southern california so i hear you about the heat. i have a pack of agassizis that seem to be doing fine as well.
