Hey Guys,

So got a tank with footprint 60"X18"...
got 6X ADA new amazonia aquasoil...
need bright white sand for a "river" i am making down the middle and maybe in the front(along the display side glass)

I was originally going with ADA La Plata Sand which is $30 a bag, need 2 bags so $80 including shipping + tax:(

I thought about Pool Filter Sand, but in the pictures the granules almost as fine as the periods below
........

won't the two mix after i put them in as the sand will fill the tiny spaces between the aquasoil?

i am not sure, anybody out there mix the two?

the ADA one is 3mm so around the length of the line below per granule

in the pics pfs looks like it has tiny granules tho

I would think just about any types of sand are going to mix to some extent, especially if your going to be planting, trimming, and have fish swimming by. You could try to do some sort of barrier. Maybe small strips of plexiglass that is only as tall as the sand is deep. This would prevent mixing from below. The top, however would need to be disguised. This could be with rocks wood or more plants or a combination of the three. Personally, I feel like you could achieve similar results with less trouble by just leaving the river unplanted and using the same substrate. If you use thick plantings, any spaces are going to stand out even without a bright sand. Hth

i have seen many tanks that have not mixed...i think the grain size is similar...i will post some links below...
if i leave the portion unplanted, it won't look like much of a river, imo, as it would seem plants are not growing yet

and as to barriers, i am using some fish safe rubber or a plastic sheet which is flexible so the runners don't spread...i am still looking for the right barrier, once i find it, it most likely won't matter what substrate size i use...

this kinda shows in the front what it'd be like
