Since yesterday that I visited a LFS,I changed my mind.I was planning in a 75 gallons set up,now I want a 48 gallons rimless tank(looks much nicer).
My doubt is in the quantity of fishes I want to stock it with.I plan in a school of 25 to 30 cardinal tetras and later add 5 to 7 wild Peruvian Scalare.
The tank will have sand,a few stones and driftwood-something very similar to the photo in my avatar-no plants,a canister filter and moderate light.
Is the quantity of fishes that I plan to stock safe for a 48 gallons(36"x18"x18") or is too much?
I have kept fishes in the past ,but this is my first project really aesthetically pleasant.

That's way too many angels in a 48g tank. Why not get a rimless 75g?
Because I,m not so confident of a rimless that size custom made by(or ordered)by the LFS.Or should I trust them with a tank that size?
I'm worried about the weight of that much water from that kind of source.
The 48 gallons is from an established online source that specialize in Amano type tanks and equipments.

I'm from Miami, and as I recall, the water was awfully hard there...are you planning on using a reverse osmosis unit? As I'm sure you know, wild caught angels don't adapt well to hard water.

I would say to only get a pair of angels for a tank this size. Maybe two dozen cardinals max, they get about 2" at maturity so if you think about it, 24 x 2" = 48", not that I am a fan of the 1" per gallon rule, but it was designed with slender fish like these in mind.

why not get either a 36 by 18 by 18 50 gallon rimless or 48 by 18 by 18 67 gallon rimless? those would work better. but goood luck!

Nicole,
Yes,I plan to use an R/O unit and peat moss(for tannins).
Two dozens of cardinal tetras sounds right, but I would like at least 4 or 5 wild angels. These would be the center of attraction of the tank.
May be reducing the quantity of cardinals to 15 would help?

Douglas,I might.Still undecided.I just called the LFS and a 75 gallons rimless is approximately the same price of the online 48 gallons and they give 1 year warranty.I'm thinking about that.Besides I haven't add the factor of shipping cost to the online smaller one.
Maybe 75 rimless with matching custom made cabinet from the LFS would be the best bet.:help:
