Hello All!
I was in the LFS today and saw a tank full of very interesting fish I couldn't resist buying a few of. I know. Spur of the moment purchasing... I've been gradually stocking my 40 gallon, and figured a few of these may be kind of cool to have. Only problem is, I'm not sure exactly what they are, other than some form of tetra. Yes, I also know I shouldn't buy a fish without doing the proper research on it beforehand, but...
The LFS had them labeled as "lamp eye tetras", however, I have kept lamp eye tetras (http://www.giveusahome.co.uk/allpets/fish/lampeyetetra.htm) before and these look nothing like them. First off, they don't have any red around or in their eyes. Secondly, they don't have a black band by their tail. These fish I purchased are tiny, smaller than the small neon tetras I have (perhaps only 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length), and have completely brownish-transparent bodies. The one feature that made them stand out was their eyes. Their eyes shine bright white, as if they were little diamonds stuck in their heads.
Any ideas what these could possibly be? Sorry, I don't have a digital camera, or I would post some pictures. Do the fry/young of lamp eye tetras look like this? I've searched around the net and can't come up with anything.
