I'm moving my betta from a 1g tank to a 10g tank. I was just wondering what fish are good roomates for him?

Unless you just have a very grumopy territorial betta, you've got alot of choices. Go for small peaceful fish that aren't fin nippers and don't get anything like guppies that your betta might think is another betta. I have bettas (one in each of two tanks!) with cory cats, neon tetras, glowlight tetras, ottos, zebra danios, white cloud minnows, harlequin rasboras, rummy nose tetras, flame tetras and dwarf gouramis. No problems. Just be prepared to watch them initially so if there is a problem, you can seperate them.

I like the idea of a 10 gallon with a betta and some bottom feeders. Either cory cats (4) or some khulie loaches (4). That way no one competes for food and there is plenty of action going on. Cories are a little more active than khulie loaches so I would opt for them. Some freshwater shrimp would also be nice and could be added without too much worry to the bioload.

Thanks, I tried putting him in my 29g tank but the didn't agree with my mollies so I had to separate them.

I'm probably going to go with the cory cats (I live in a small town so they are about all I can get)

Do cory's require a special food? I have one in my 29 gallon tank but he just eats flake food that floats to the bottom.

boring colored balloon mollies & cory o.k. with bettas

We have had a single male betta alone in a 20L tank with heater and filtration for quite some time (the filter is NOT a problem with the betta because the flow is adjustable and the tank is long). We added 3 leopard cory cats (about 1" each), a black female mollie, and a mottled white/gray female balloon mollie (about 1.5"). The betta harassed the black mollie so we took her out and put her in our 44gal tank (with our lyretail mollies, gouramis, neon, green cory, pleco and apple snail). The betta is doing GREAT with the corys and the balloon mollie so that mix might be a good suggestion to anyone thinking about adding tankmates!

my sister had a betta in a 10 gal with some zebra danios, and some neons, the danios destroyed the bettas fins, i would not reccomend danios

cory cats are fine..otos, neons..go for the smaller fish

Due to a water issue with Betta 5 Gal hex, I've currently got my wife's betta in my 25 Gal with all my Tetras & such & there's no issues. Community tank is good but ya gotta watch it at feeding time...Bettas will over-indulge more than I do on Thanksgiving when it comes to food and pretty soon they're sunk to the bottom.

Yes, I know this from first hand mistake!

I would second the notion of being a little against the zebra d's. They are nippy little buggers.

The dwarf gourami could be a risk too, as they tend to be a little territorial especially to other anabantoids.
