I've got a ten gallon tank and can't decide for the life of me what type of fish to get. I want to get just one type of fish now so i don't infect them from other tanks. Any Ideas?

first and foremost..cycle the tank

while it's cycling (assuming you're doing a fishless cycle) you can research what to get.
is this a first tank? how much experience do you have?

these help you chose fish which may help you get started.
some species are beautiful but require more care.
also keep in mind you have a 10 gallon which also limits your choices.

good luck

Look through the species profiles on this website (as well as others), visit your local stores, and make a note of any fish you like. That will give you (and us) a starting point. There are countless options, even for a small tank.

I would probably go with mollies or some sort of danio. Maybe some fantailed guppies. Or you could just do a single betta....he would be VERY happy in a 10 gallon.

well, just be careful with the betta because they are aggressive fish, and some just like to be alone... I know that I tried adding my betta into my 70gallon tank afew months ago, and he didn't like the idea one bit!.. he's much happier now in his own tank :p:

Bettas are not all agressive, and they should never be precived(sp?) in such way.
Most Male bettas simply do not like to be near other bettas in which they are able to see. I know this for a fact considering i have had about 12 male bettas at a time... Some of my males simply will jump out of the uncovered tanks from the stress level. Others just hide, in the plants away from any other males. Others still will just tease by swimming by without pay attention. Sure Male bettas are agressive towards themselves or anything thats their size or bigger, but they are definitly NOT agressive toward little tetras.

remember tetras HAVE to be in schools of six neons and tetras will scholl though
