What glue for gluing wood to slate?

:help: i am making some decorations out of cypress knees. i need to know what type of glue to use. i am planning to glue them to slate. i did a search, but i couldn't find anything that mentioned gluing wood to slate.

Reef epoxy should work, it can glue rock to rock, and wood is pretty porous as well.

they are very buoyant.

i like the screw idea. i am guessing that it is not that hard to drill through slate.

I use a masonry bit and work slowly with good support underneath. Open the hole up so the screw can slide freely thru.

Stainless steel screws was about the only that would work for me. Slate is easy to drill, even with a standard bit. Slow r.p.m.s, light pressure. Drill went right through.

If the slate is going to be buried in the substrate, I would instead use tile. A glass/tile drill bit only costs a few bucks and goes through tile easily. Just slitly score the tile before trying to drill it otherwise you will will just have a dancing drill.

If you want to be able to plant right up to the edge of the wood, use nylon spacers between the tile and the wood. this lets the tile sit on the bottom glass and be covered by a few inches of substrate.

How about tying down the wood to the slate with a thin nylon fishing line?
