i think gouramis will be fine in this tank, mostly because there is a solid school of 9 tiger barbs. if there were only a couple, i would be extremely wary of nipping. it's not a guaranteed success, but i would bet on it.
What Gourami would work in my 45 Gallon tank with 8 Tigers?

I think the tiger barbs will create problems. Tiger Barbs often break their school and will bother the Gouramis.
I have six tiger barbs with a Gold Gourami (with a ton of other fish) and they NEVER touch him. I am sure it will be fine....
I also had around 6 tiger barbs with a pair of dwarf gouramis and they left them alone. I have never seen tiger barbs chew on anything but themselves. I recently lost a few and even with a smaller school they are keeping to themselves.
