What is a blue dolphin fish

Could be one of three fish:

1. Blue dolphin cichlid, Cyrtocara Moorii

2. Blue dolphin catfish, Cetopsis coecutiens

3. Dolphin mormyrid, Mormyrus longirostris

Although I strongly suspect that the persons you are speaking of were referring to the first of the three.

don't forget the marine sportfish also called "dolphin fish" - Coryphaena spp. :) but she was probably talking FW and small enough to fit in aquaria...

Blue Dolphin

Blue Dolphins (the one I have anyways), is a cichlid. Its a very nice fish actually, other then it being a pain! When I first got him, I have about 50 babies in a small net breeder, on the side of my tank, which hooked over the top of the tank, and down the outside. Well, he kept at that net through the night, and finally did end up getting a hole in it, and ate every single one of my babies!!! Then, to top it all off, he looked at me as if to say hee hee! :help:

I put him in the big tank, for the "big boys" (my cichlids etc) to teach him a lesson about bullying. Well, they never even bothered him, and he ended up making friends with the biggest fish I have in that tank! lol

They are very smart fish! I have had mine only for about 2 months now, and I already have him trained to eat out of my hand. If I stick my hand in the water, he will come up and suck on my fingers, and I can ALMOST pet his back!

Are they freshwater or saltwater fish?

All are freshwater, the C. moori is a rift lake cichlid.

Are they freshwater or saltwater fish?
if you had read through the links i gave you, you would not have asked this question. i really feel helpful when folks simply ignore the work i do to help them.

My dolphin teamed up with my large venustus and they tried to beat up everything in my tank. I raised them for 2.5 years but they got to aggressive so I traded them in and got another venustus. The new venustus is the same size as the others now but still doesnt pick on anything. I dont know if I had a mean venustus before of if the dolphin was just a bad influence. He was very beautiful though.
