I bought a datnoid about a week ago and when I bought it I noticed some type of fungus. I figured that I could cure it with salt but I'm not sure what it is. It's definitely not ich, and I don't think it's cotton wool. What is the white thing on the end of the dorsal fin? It's kind of growing on its mouth too, which I thought it was teeth.

Its hard to diagnose fungus from images. If salt baths aren't helping it might be good to look into what antifungal treatments are available to you.

It cant hurt to try Pimafix. You can also try spot applying hydrogen peroxide with a q-tip directly to the spot.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious. You took a big risk placing a fish you knew had an undiagnosed issue in with your other fish. That could have ended very badly for your tank. One should quarantine ALL new fish before adding them to an established tank. But, it's your tank.

I mixed some aquarium salt into water and dipped a q-tip in it and lightly rubbed the spot. Hopefully it will go away.
