I recently have acquired a 55g and 5g with slate bottoms.
The 55g has a small leak and the 5g is sealed.
What are some Ups and Downs of these tanks?
Should I keep them? Fix them? Sell them? What are they even worth?
I have heard they are good, but don't know why.:hypnotized:

you don't have to worry about scratching the bottom if you put rocks on it, if you do bare bottom it still looks cool, and last but not least they're just cool

Makes cleanup a breeze.

Do you know how to fix them and feel confident in your abilities? I've never tried resealing and though it seems easy enough, I wouldn't 100% trust any tank I had to reseal. That's just me. Most people who buy them want to fix them themselves. So if you're thinking of selling them, just sell them as is, or fix them and keep them.

Btw, they don't have any "benefit" to them, they are just relics and so are worth more. The same way an antique lamp is worth more than a regular lamp, but they both function the same way. Some people like the way they look bare bottom. If you do, then you should keep them :)

Here is a hint as to why they are in demand-

Most pleco breeders will happily take them off your hands, especially those who breed hypancistrus.

i say fix them and keep them! old slate bottom metaframe tanks are the coolest. i have a 20 long metaframe (granted it's not a slate bottom) that i'm eventually going to clean up, reseal, and set up.
