Ive got my mind set on gettin a few peacock cichlids but I just cant decided which species to get!! I need your help and opinions.....what is the smallest sized peacock cichlid available....they will be in a 40 gallon tank for a while and then moved to a 55 gallon. But i really want to find the smallest ones. Most of them seem to grow to 6 to 7 inches

Alot of them grow to 5", some, like stuartgrantis and jacobs in particular grow larger (even more than a profile might say), some stay smaller at 4.5" like hauseri and sulfur head toddnbecka mentioned above.

If it's a breeding group, you could get away with keeping a male with 3 females (5-6") in a 40gal.
